Nevada Proficiency Examination Project
Nevada’s Proficiency Examination Program is a comprehensive, statewide system for assessment and accountability. The NPEP contains both Standards-based and Norm-referenced tests. These include:
- The Criterion Referenced Test (CRT) in grades 3 through 8,
- The High School Proficiency Examination (HSPE) in Math, Reading, Science and Writing
- An Analytic Writing exam in 5th and 8th grades
- The Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITED) in 4th and 7th grades and the Iowa Test of Educational Development (ITBS) in 10th grade
- The English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA) for English language learners
- And the Nevada Alternate Scales of Academic Achievement (NASAA) for students with special needs
- A few schools will be selected at random to take part in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)
