Cooperating with the community to successfully implement the Americans with Disabilities Act
Philosophy
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Nevada, is sponsored by the Nevada University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities to assist people with disabilities and small businesses in better understanding the Americans with Disabilities Act. Focusing on a positive and cooperative approach along with shared responsibility between individuals with disabilities and the community, ADA Nevada is committed to assisting with the development and implementation of accessible programs, services, facilities, and employment practices. The project provides assistance to employees, businesses, and other organizations interested in exhibiting good faith efforts that keep with the intent and spirit of the ADA. There are 54 million Americans with disabilities. They represent potential employees, customers, and program participants, who are eager to receive full and equal enjoyment of our society.
Services and Activities
Training Provided statewide to
individuals with disabilities and small businesses, with
emphasis upon rural training and serving individuals with
developmental disabilities. Training modules that address
the needs of specific interest groups or particular
concerns will be developed.
Information and Referral Basic ADA
information is offered as well as resources available
locally and nationally to assist in compliance related
concerns.
Technical Assistance On-site or individual
assistance is provided on an informal basis. For example:
Determining reasonable accommodations, achieving program
accessibility, identification and prioritization of readily
achievable barrier removal.
Disability Awareness General education to
alleviate myths, stereotypes, and ineffective communication
between concerned parties in both the public and private
sectors. barrier removal.
Funding ADA Nevada is funded through the
cooperative efforts of the Nevada University Center for
Excellence in Developmental Disabilities and the University
of Nevada, Reno, the Pacific Disability and Business
Technical Assistance Center, and the Nevada Developmental
Disabilities Planning Council.
