National Service Inclusion Project (NSIP)
NSIP is a training and technical assistance project to Increase the Participation of People with Disabilities in National Service. NSIP builds connections between disability organizations and state commissions, offices, and service programs. The National Service Inclusion project is a cooperative agreement between The Corporation for National and Community Service, a collaborative effort of the Institute for Community Inclusion at UMass Boston and the Association of University Centers on Disabilities.
The goal of our mini-grant with NSIP is that National and Community Service will be a viable option for people with disabilities and service projects in Nevada. To accomplish this, we undertook the following activities:
- Attended National Service Disability Inclusion Leadership Institute.
- Collaborated with the Nevada State Commission and the Nevada CNCS State Office to form a state team that will create and implement a plan to make national and community service a viable option for people with disabilities and CNCS projects in Nevada.
- Reviewed existing literature from NSIP and other sources to find appropriate recruitment and training materials for Nevada CNCS projects, and information for people with disabilities about national and community service.
- Produced a Nevada inclusion informational brochure for people with disabilities and CNCS projects.
- Collaborated with the Nevada State Commission, the Nevada CNCS State Office and other community partners/team members to provide inclusion training to Nevada CNCS projects.
- Collaborated with the Nevada State Commission, the Nevada CNCS State Office, and other community partners/team members to disseminate information to disability organizations throughout Nevada regarding the opportunities for people with disabilities in national and community service.
