Personal Outcomes and Satisfaction

Beginning in 1995, the Nevada Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (Nevada UCED) entered into a contract with Developmental Services of the Nevada Division of Mental Health and Developmental Services. The objective of the contract is to improve delivery of services to people with mental retardation and related conditions. The Nevada UCED has conducted over 4,371 interviews with individuals around the state. Using the 25 outcomes identified by the Council on Quality and Leadership (CQL), interviews are conducted in a one-on-one format to help determine each individual's status. The utilization of national standards for assessment of services quality, together with an outside agency conducting the guided interviews and evaluations, sets high standards for delivery of services to these individuals and implements a new model for the state. The compiled interview results have begun to influence staff training needs and a variety of state policies, and interviews frequently assist in helping individuals consider new or additional methods of services. An effort to combine information into a state report is currently underway. This effort has both created and significantly improved working relationships within a number of state programs and agencies working with people who are mentally retarded in north and south areas of Nevada.
